Die Deflection Modeling: Empirical Validation and Technology Transfer
The overall goal of this project is to gather knowledge and develop methods which can be applied to design better running dies that will reduce the number of test and rework iterations necessary to put a new die in service. Better running dies will produce more consistent parts with less scrap, wasted operations, and wasted energy. Such work is essential since the users of die castings continue to demand higher and higher quality parts produced with much shorter product development lead times. The project will develop and apply additional empirical data for validation of the models and conclusions resulting from current studies. Additionally, the project will test new design guidelines in the field and develop case studies for technical transfer purposes.
