Advanced Scalable Clean Aluminum Melting Systems

ABSTRACT
Reverberatory furnaces are typically used to heat aluminum to melting temperatures with open flame, direct-fired, wall-mounted burners. Although the aluminum reverberatory furnaces can process in high volumes with low operation and maintenance costs, they are inefficient in melting processes because of high metal oxidation rate, low melting efficiencies of 26 to 31 percent, and large floor space requirements. Researchers at SECAT have found that immersion heater furnace can be utilized for aluminum melting to achieve melting efficiency of 60 to 65 percent, saving melting energy and reducing melt loss.
