Improvements in Efficiency of Melting for Die Casting

ABSTRACT
The efficiency of the current melting furnaces in die castings is often less than ten percent when natural gas is used for the melting process. In addition, due to recent trends in fuel process, the cost of melting process has become significantly higher. Researchers from Case Western Reserve University found that the energy consumption of melting in die casting could be reduced significantly if melting were done in partly closed electric powered furnaces or higher efficiency gas furnace instead of the current gas-fired, open furnaces.
