The purpose of this project was to determine the influence of HSM and PECM on residual stresses in the die surface and its resistance to thermal fatigue and to develop guidelines for machining H-13 at a fully heat treated state. This will test the findings and determine time and cost savings.
Researchers determined the influence of HSM on surface integrity and die life and studied PECM as method for improving thermal fatigue resistance.
A report on effect of manufacturing methods was developed in January 1998 and machinery of geometry features by HSM was completed at the end of last year. In addition, an economic evaluation, and a report on strategies for machining various geometric features have also been completed.
