Over the past several years, the Center for Die Casting at Ohio State University has developed a computerized tool, called CastView, which provides general indications of problems such as hot spots, shrinkage, difficult fill conditions, difficult vent conditions, trapped air, and some other ejectability issues. Researchers at Ohio Sate University have developed design wizards that extend the utility of the CastView approach to additional casing processes. Some of the features of this project include development of techniques to compute the die equilibrium temperature, improvement of fill pattern reasoning methods, and aid in screening evaluation for castability.
